Monitoring mechanisms lifted from Addu City

The Health Protection Agency (HPA)'s monitoring status has been lifted from southernmost Addu City.

Addu City was put under HPA's monitoring mechanisms on February 6 as a safety measure against COVID-19. Strict measures, including curfews were implemented on February 9. However, the curfew was later lifted in some neighborhoods.

An announcement issued by HPA on Saturday night said the monitoring mechanisms have been lifted as there is no further need to keep the island on monitoring status.

The statistics publicized by HPA show a total of 92 positive cases of COVDI-19 were identified from Addu City. 86 people have recovered from the illness and only six cases are active at this time. While three different clusters were identified from the city, 22 cases were linked to the Hithadhoo Cluster, 14 to the Meedhoo cluster and 35 cases to an outbreak at an MTCC worksite. 4,889 samples were tested for COVID-19 from Addu City.
