Isolation facilities reaching full capacity, new centers being brought into operation

The isolation facility established at Farukolhufushi has reached maximum capacity, and the Velidhoo Isolation Facility is being brought into operation, the government has said.

Speaking at a press conference held by the Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC) on Wednesday night, government Spokesperson Mohamed Mabrook Azeez said while the COVID-19 situation in the Maldives continues to worsen, the number of people requiring hospitalization due to severe symptoms are also increasing. As a result, isolation facilities are reaching full capacity, and all 111 beds at Farukolhufushi are currently occupied, said Mabrook. Therefore, Velidhoo Isolation Facility will be brought into operation on Thursday, he added.

While the Hulhumale' Medical Facility has 248 beds, 171 beds are currently occupied. The wing allocated for pregnant women with COVID-19 at Dharumavantha Hospital is almost at full capacity, with only one out of 16 beds free.
