Resolution calls for public inquiry on security impact of previous gov't policies

A resolution has been moved in Parliament calling for a public inquiry into the allegations that the policies implemented by the last MDP government have affected national security.

The resolution was introduced by Thinadhoo North MP Abdul Mughunee at Tuesday's Parliament session.

The resolution states that allegations that the former government's policies, decisions, and agreements with foreign countries had threatened the country's national security left Maldivian citizens with significant concerns that must be addressed. The resolution also said that it is imperative to identify and disclose the truth regarding whether the previous government engaged in actions or implemented policies that undermined the security, independence, and sovereignty of the Maldives.

The resolution further calls for a public inquiry to address allegations such as the presence of thousands of armed Indian military personnel in the Maldives and the conclusion of the maritime dispute with Mauritius to the detriment of the Maldives.
