The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced that the precautionary measures imposed on the Greater Male' Region to curb the spread of COVID-19 will remain in place for an additional week.
HPA on May 11th imposed strict measures in Male' City after a dramatic surge in COVID-19 infections. HPA increased the duration of the current seven-hour curfew in place in Male' to 12 hours to be in effect from 04:00 pm to 04:00 am for one week. Additional restrictions included banning dine-in customers at restaurants and cafes' and allowing only delivery and takeaway services. Congregational prayers at mosques were also suspended. The measures were announced for a 7-day duration.
A directive signed and issued by the Director General of Public Health Maimoona Aboobakuru on Tuesday said the measures will remain in place for another week.
The Maldives has reported 47,421 COVID-19 cases out of which most cases are from the Greater Male' Region. The number of COVID-19 deaths have been climbing steadily, surpassing 100 deaths on Monday. The country's toll is now at 105.
