The President's Office has stated that the commanders of the Special Protection Group (SPG) were changed on the order of President of the Maldives and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces , Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Answering a question posed by AVAS reporters, Chief Spokesperson of Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) Major Ibrahim Azim said the previous commanders of the SPG have been changed and new appointments have been made in their place. The new Commanding Officer of the SPG is Lieutenant Colonel Abdul Muizu Musthafa and the Deputy Commanding Officer is Major Moosa Rameez.

Spokesperson at the President's Office, Mohamed Mabrook Azeez said President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih instructed Minister of Defense, Mariya Ahmed Didi to reshuffle the commanders of SPG following the May 6 attack targeted at former president and Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed, in order to improve the security and protection provided to the heads of the government.

President Solih has established a special team to carry out a special intelligence audit on intelligence agencies following the May 6 attack. He had earlier said that a probe will be launched to identify why intelligence agencies were not aware that a terror attack of its magnitude was planned and executed. He further said a special assessment had been carried out on the security provided to Nasheed.
