India's NKN services to be extended to the Maldives

Indian High Commission in the Maldives has stated that India's National Knowledge Network (NKN)'s services will be extended to include the Maldives.

Upon the request of Maldives' President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, the Government of India approved a US$ 2 million grant for the extension of the network to include the Maldives. The project will reach completion within three months and will be managed by India's National Centre for Information Technology.

Under the project, India will assist to connect educational institutions and research entities as well as schools, universities and government agencies to establish a high-speed National Research and Education Network.

The NKN is India's biggest high-speed broadband network that connects educational institutions and research entities within India. The network was established in 2010.
