Former Commissioner of Police Hussain Waheed has been summoned to the Presidential Commission on Deaths and Disappearances for questioning over the disappearance of journalist, Ahmed Rilwan.
Hussain Waheed was the Commissioner of Police when Rilwan was abducted in 2014. The Presidential Commission Investigating Deaths and Disappearances believe that the former CP was involved in obstructing the investigation into Rilwan's disappearance. Waheed was summoned to the commission and his statement on the matter was recorded in July.
The commission last week summoned the former president of the Maldives Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom for questioning in connection to the same investigation. The former president exercised his right to remain silent and refused to answer the commission's inquiries during the meeting. According to Yameen's legal team, he chose to remain silent as the allegations against him are unclear.
Rilwan was abducted in August 2014 outside his apartment in reclaimed suburb, Hulhumale'. He is believed to have been murdered.
