The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has said the recent oil spill at Rasfannu beach in the capital city Male' was deliberate.
The Maafannu beach was closed to the public on Thursday ahead of the weekend due to an oil spill.
When asked regarding the oil spill, EPA's Director General Ibrahim Naeem said they believe the oil was deliberately poured into the ocean, just outside the seawall. He said that the seawall has absorbed some of the oil, and that authorities are working on cleaning up the spill.
