ACC requests charges against former WAMCO MD

The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has requested the Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) to raise charges against former Managing Director of Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) Mohamed Shifau.

According to ACC, WAMCO contracted the development of a Customer Relationship Management System 'Veshifaara' to a party without announcing the project. The software development project was contracted to Noni Solution Pvt Ltd as an emergency project. Shifau was the Managing Director at WAMCO at that time, and the investigation found all communications related to the project went through Shifau. ACC also noted that Shifau had a personal connection to Noni Solution Pvt. Ltd.

ACC said WAMCO's emergency requests are forwarded to the company's procurement department, and quotations are obtained by said department. However, in the case of the Veshifaara project, WAMCO's emergency request policies and procurement policies were not followed, noted ACC.

ACC said the investigation found that since the project was awarded to Noni Solutions, the company's owner transferred funds from his personal account to Shifau's personal account over multiple occasions.

ACC requested PGO to raise charges of misusing official authority against Shifau.
