Seas expected to remain rough, warns MET Office

Maldives Meteorological Service has warned that seas will remain rough on Monday.

The MET Office said isolated showers are expected over southern atolls, and scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected in other areas of the Maldives until 1800 hrs. Winds between 8 and 18 mph are expected in southern atolls while the wind strength is expected to be between 13 and 23 mph elsewhere. Gusts upto 45 mph are expected during showers.

The MET Office warned seafarers of rough seas and said waves of 3 and 7 feet in height are expected.

The Maldives has been experiencing unfavorable weather conditions with strong winds over the past few days, and tragic incidents have occurred at sea. On Saturday, passengers traveling in a speedboat were flung into the sea after the boat hit a massive wave, and a 33-year-old woman died in the incident. Her four-year-old child is still missing at sea. A man fishing near Izzuddin Jetty in Male' City was blown into the sea due to strong winds and drowned on Monday morning.
