Maldives Meteorological Services has issued a yellow alert to central atolls.
The alert was issued from 12:00 until 16:00. The Met Office said torrential rain and thunderstorms are expected between Meemu and Laamu atoll.
Meanwhile, a white alert was issued for atolls between Haa Alif and Vaavu atoll from 12:00 until 18:00. In addition to heavy rain and thunderstorms, gusts of 40 mph are expected.
The current weather conditions in the Maldives are being experienced under the influence of a low pressure area over Sri Lanka. Seafarers are advised to take precautionary measures during this period.
