The Maldives' only Arabic-medium school, Arabiyya School's parents, will meet with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to discuss the government's plans to move the school's students to Izzuddin School.
Arabiyya School's current building was constructed and opened in 2013. The less-than-ten-year-old building already has multiple cracks in the building beams, and parents and the public alike have raised concerns about the safety of the building.
In response, the Education Ministry has announced that school's students will be moved to Izzuddin School, a decision the student's parents are unhappy with. As the parents and ministry do not see eye to eye on the issue, a meeting was held with the Education Ministry, in which Education Minister Dr. Aishath Ali also participated. The parents have also protested the decision in front of the school and on social media platforms.
The ministry had earlier suggested designating a building for Arabiyya School in Hulhumale'. However, the parents are not on board with the suggestion at this time. Speaking to the media following Monday's meeting with the parents, Minister Aishath Ali said the government is working on finding a property in Male'. She also said the parents voiced their concerns during the meeting.
The school's parents will be meeting the president to discuss the issue at 11:00 am on Monday. The meeting will take place at the President's Office.
