HPA revises night market suspension

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revised its decision to suspend night markets in the capital city.

The Male' City Council said the council issued permits to organize night markets in Male' and Hulhumale', and event organizers spent a significant amount of money to hold the night markets. The council said HPA instructed them to suspend the night markets due to soaring COVID-19 cases but has now revised the decision to allow the night markets to be held as per HPA guidelines. Therefore, the City Council said that night market permits would continue to be issued to those who request it as long as they agree to adhere to HPA guidelines.

Currently, a night market that began on December 26 is ongoing in the Rasfannu Beach area. The event, which has over 200 vendors, is organized by Prime Holdings LMP.

The Maldives recorded over 300 positive cases over the past 24 hours. President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has warned the Maldives' COVID-19 situation is expected to worsen over the next three weeks. He has urged the public to adhere to safety measures.
