Homestay tourism introduced in Ha. Kolamaafushi

Homestay tourism has been introduced in Ha. Kolamaafushi.

Kolamaafushi Council member Riyaz Hussain told AVAS that homestay tourism services are being provided unofficially and that the island is yet to receive an official permit from the Tourism Ministry. However, he said the service would be provided officially late this month.

Rooms have been prepared in two islands as per the homestay guidelines, and two tourists from Austria are already checked in to the properties, Riyaz said. He added that the council is discussing programs that will be carried out to commence homestay on the island officially.

The homestay tourism concept was introduced in the Maldives on January 1, with the first registered property in M. Dhiggaru. The Tourism Ministry has eased the guidelines for local guesthouses with the introduction of homestay.
