Aviation Academy to add three aircraft to fleet

The Maldives Aviation Academy will be adding three aircraft to its fleet this month.

Speaking to AVAS, a partner of the Aviation Academy, Island Aviation Services (IAS)'s Deputy Managing Director, Aishath Jennifer, said efforts to bring the three aircraft to the Maldives are in progress. If things move along as per schedule, they will arrive in the Maldives by March 29, she said.

'As war is ingoing, rapid changes are coming to global air and sea travel. If no issues arise due to this, the aircraft will arrive on schedule,' she said.

The Aviation Academy's first aircraft was sent to Addu City on Tuesday. On January 10, the academy purchased two aircraft used by the old flying academy in Addu City, Academy of Aeronautics (AAA).

The Maldives Aviation Academy is operated by a partnership between IAS, The Maldives National Univerity (MNU), and Czechs Flying Academy. The academy opened its doors to students on January 10 this year. The first batch of its refresher course includes 35 students. The academy gave precedence to students who were enrolled at AAA, whose studies were interrupted.

The refresher program includes 150 hours of theory classes and ten hours of flying. Theory classes are carried out from Monday to Thursday from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Theory classes will be held at the MNU Campus in Addu City, while flying will be carried out at Gan International Airport. The flying component of the course will begin on April 15.
