Maldives' High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Dr. Farahanaz Faisal, has been named 'Diplomat of the Year from Asia and Oceania' by UK's Diplomat Magazine. This is the first time a Maldivian diplomat has been awarded a title in the Diplomat Awards organized by the magazine.
The award was presented to the High Commissioner by Marshall of the UK's Diplomatic Corp, William Alistair Harrison.
Maldives' Foreign Minister and the 76th UN General Assembly's President Abdulla Shahid congratulated Dr. Farahanaz on her achievement.
In a tweet, Shahid said Farahanaz had done exceptional work in promoting and safeguarding the interests of the Maldives.
Dr. Farahanaz first served as the Maldivian High Commissioner to the UK from 2009 to 2012, during former President Mohamed Nasheed's administration. She was reappointed to the same position by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on April 18, 2019.
