New ambassadors present credentials to Pres Solih

Newly appointed ambassadors from the Kingdom of Bhutan, Kazakhstan, and Brazil have presented their credentials to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. The ambassadors presented their credentials at ceremonies held at the President's Office on Monday.

At a meeting meeting with the new Ambassador of the Federative Republic of Brazil Sergio Luiz Canaes following the presentation of the credentials, the President and the Ambassador spoke extensively on further strengthening Maldives-Brazil relations and other mutually concerning issues. President Solih noted that this year marks the 34th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries. He stressed the close ties between the two, extending his assurances of continuing to foster the relationship and cooperation.

In the meeting between President Solih and the new Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nurlan Zhalgasbayev, President Solih noted that this year marks the 22nd anniversary of establishing bilateral relations between the two countries and emphasised that cooperation between the two countries has significantly improved over the years, including people-to-people contact. Speaking with the President, Ambassador Zhalgasbayev highlighted that the two countries have a history of support and cooperation in various areas of mutual interest and the increase in the number of Kazakh tourists visiting the Maldives.

Rinchen Kuentsyl, the new ambassador of the Kingdom of Bhutan to the Republic of Maldives, during his meeting with the President, noted that the Maldives and Bhutan are both susceptible to climate change and expressed his desire to work closely with the Maldives on this front. He also praised the President for his exceptional management of the Covid-19 epidemic and the Maldives’ rapid tourism recovery. President Solih emphasised that the Maldives regards Bhutan as an important bilateral partner and that it would continue to cooperate in areas of common interest. The President acknowledged that the Maldives and Bhutan have yet to realise the full potential of their partnership and stated that the Maldives treasures its longstanding relationship with Bhutan and looks forward to further engagement.
