Internal interests of political parties closely linked to country's interests: Home Minister

Home Minister Imran Abdulla has said that the internal interests of political parties are linked to the entire country's interests.

Minister Imran made the statement in a tweet congratulating Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail on his election as the main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s Chairperson in the party's internal elections held Saturday.

Imran said the internal interests of political parties are closely related to the interests of the entire country and its people under some circumstances. The country and its people's best interest can be pursued if coalition parties work together with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, he added.

Fayyaz received more than 28,000 votes in the Chairperson Election. His opponent, Maafannu North MP Imthiyaz Fahmy, received 20,000 votes. While Fayyaz received 58 percent of the vote, Imthiyaz received 42 percent of the vote.
