The Clemency Board has concluded 161 cases in the first half of the year.
The Clemency Board, which runs under the supervision of the Attorney General, was established by the President under the Clemency Act. The Clemency Board has 11 members and is chaired by Attorney General Ibrahim Riffath.
The Attorney General's Office Tuesday released statistics on the work done by the Clemency Board over the past six months.
According to the data, the Clemency Board concluded 161 cases in the first half of this year, while 257 cases were submitted to the board during the period.
In the first half of this year, 23 forms submitted to the Clemency Board were canceled for various reasons. Seventy-three cases remained pending during the period.
When prisoners serving sentences apply to the President for pardon and commutation of sentence, the President decides on the matter on the recommendation of the Clemency Board.
The Clemency Board concluded 609 cases last year. The board closed the most number of cases in it history in 2021.
