Aasandha spending exceeds allocated budget

The budget for the government's medical insurance scheme, Aasandha, has run out.

According to the Finance Ministry, MVR 730.9 million was allocated to Aasandha from this year's national budget. However, Aasandha spending has already exceeded the allocated budget, reaching MVR 874.6 million.

The current spending is an increase compared to MVR 757.8 million allocated for the medical insurance scheme last year.

Aasandha is usually given a budget of approximately MVR 2 billion. However, the government is adamant about cutting Aasandha expenditure. In this regard, the government held talks with pharmaceutical companies to reduce the cost of medicines. However, no solution has been reached thus far.
