High Court orders CSC to pay MVR 1 mln as compensation to former PS

The High Court Sunday ruled that Mus'ab Abdulla was removed from the post of Permanent Secretary of the Islamic Ministry illegally and ordered the Civil Service Commission to pay him over MVR 1 million in compensation.

Mus'ab was sacked in September 2019 while serving as the Permanent Secretary of the Islamic Ministry. He was suspended for several days before being removed from office.

Mus'ab filed a lawsuit against the Civil Service Commission seeking his reinstatement and salary and allowances from the date of his suspension until his reinstatement. However, the Civil Court ruled in 2020 that Mus'ab's dismissal was not illegal. The case was then appealed in the High Court by Mus'ab.

On Monday, the High Court ruled that Mus'ab was dismissed illegally and ordered the Civil Service Commission to pay Mus'ab his salary and allowances from the date of his dismissal until the date of the ruling, within 14 days. Although Mus'ab's lawsuit seeks reinstatement of the job, the court ruled that only compensation can be given as the position has already been filled.

The three judges of the High Court unanimously awarded MVR 1,187,666.60 as compensation to Mus'ab.
