The government has said that this year's second Viavathi Conference will be held on September 10 in Laamu Gan.
The conference, which will be held from the 10th to the 12th of this month, will further strengthen the efforts initiated by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to implement the decentralization system and empower councils.
According to the President's Office's Spokesperson, Miuwaan Mohamed, the conference will be attended by southern atolls, Dhaalu, Thaa, Laamu, Gaafu Alif, Gaafu Dhaalu, Fuvahmulah City, and Addu City's mayors, atoll council and island council presidents, and Women's Development Committees.
“More than 250 participants, including mayors, council presidents, women's development committee presidents, as well as cabinet ministers, heads of government institutions, and technical staff, will attend this conference,” Miuwaan said.
Miuwaan added that the conference would focus on four main areas. These include financial empowerment of councils, development of infrastructure plans, class equality, and building society.
As in the previous conference held earlier this year, a sports festival will be held on the evening of the opening day of the conference for conference participants.
This year's first Viavathi Conference was held on March 28 in Aa. Ukulhas. The conference was attended by President Ibrahim Solih.
