An audit report has revealed that Veymandoo Council held only 29 general meetings while mandated to hold 52 meetings.
Under the Decentralization of Administrative Areas Act, councils are required to hold a scheduled general meeting once a week. The agenda of the meeting must be sent in writing to the members by the President of the Council two months prior to the meeting.
According to the audit report, out of 29 meetings held by the Veymandoo Council, the meeting held on April 11, 2021, was held in the presence of only one councilor. The report also noted that the council did not hold the two meetings the council is required to convene to provide information to the island's residents in accordance with the regulations.
The report further said that the Veymandoo Council did not comply with the Public Finance regulations in the management of its stock. The council has not complied with the rules in maintaining the property registry, the report said.
The audit report also found that the Veymandoo Council did not comply with regulations in preparing order forms and receiving goods. The register of receipts of funds received by the council office was not maintained, and the treasury report was not prepared in accordance with the regulations, the report said.
