Nasheed travels to Sri Lanka to assist in economic crisis

Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed departed to Sri Lanka on Monday night to attend a meeting on seeking financial assistance for Sri Lanka.

Nasheed said he was traveling to Sri Lanka for a meeting between the CVF and the Sri Lanka Mission as part of his efforts to seek foreign assistance to rectify the country's economic situation.

Sri Lanka is facing a series of protests over the country's dire economic crisis. Sri Lanka's incumbent President Ranil Wickremesinghe appointed Nasheed as a special envoy to coordinate foreign aid to improve the country's economic situation when Nasheed offered to assist Sri Lanka in securing aid from other countries. Nasheed is also in talks with Sri Lanka's political leaders to stabilize the political situation.
