An area of 750 nautical miles has been searched for a young man who went missing at sea, Mohamed Minhaj from S. Hithadhoo.
A small fishing boat, in which Minhaj and another person were traveling, set off for AA. Ukulhas from Male' City. The speedboat was found capsized near Aa. Maalhos on Friday night. The person who was said to have been traveling with Minhaj was found on Aa. Feridhoo's shingle beach. However, Minjah still remains missing.
The police said Minhaj's family had not heard from him since 1:00 pm of October 5, before he set off on his travel. His family reported him as missing around 8:50 pm on October 6.
MNDF Sunday said a large area had been searched via sea and air for the missing man. While MNDF's Dornier aircraft was used to search an area of 750 square nautical miles aerially, 270 square nautical miles were searched using MNDF's Coast Guard vessels, Shaheed Ali, and fast intercept vessel, Hakuraa. Meanwhile, the police have also searched an area of 87.6 nautical miles in the search for Minhaj.
MNDF said Minhaj was last seen wearing a grey long-sleeved t-shirt and blue jeans. Security agencies have urged anyone with information about Minhaj to contact them immediately.
