MVR 1.41 bln collected as revenue in September

The state tax authority, Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA), collected MVR 1.41 billion in revenue this September.

The amount collected is a 29 percent decline compared to the same period last year. In September 2021, MIRA collected MVR 1.9 million in revenue.

According to MIRA, the reasons for the decline in revenue included a decrease in income tax and tourism land rent.

The authority's figures show GST was the most significant source of revenue last month, possessing 45.6 percent of the revenue generated in the month. MVR 640.9 million was collected as GST during the period. The second largest income was from tourism land rent, which possessed 12 percent of total revenue, with MVR 297.6 million as land rent. The next most significant revenue came from income tax. While MVR 149.2 million was collected as income tax, it possessed 10.6 percent of the revenue.

MIRA collected MVR 16.6 billion from January to September this year as against MVR 11.4 billion in the same period last year.
