Felivaru Harbor and Land Reclamation project reaches 51 percent completion

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has completed 51 percent of the Lh. Felivaru Land Reclamation and Harbor Development project.

The Planning Ministry awarded the fishing island project to MTCC on January 20 this year for MVR 113.39 million. The scope of the project includes reclamation operations of 6 hectares, dredging operations of 229,663.36cbm; construction of a 220m quay wall; a 148m breakwater; a 270m revetment. Although the project is expected to be completed within 365 days, MTCC has said it is likely that the project will get delayed due to EIA work and other reasons.

MTCC said on Sunday that the project is underway with 51 percent overall completion. The quay wall concrete and revetment construction work is at 93 percent completion, and sheet piling work is ongoing, MTCC said.

A 4,000-ton cold storage facility will be established on the land reclaimed under the MTCC project. Additionally, an 8.5-meter deep 90-meter jetty will be set up. The harbor is being built to accommodate large ships of 3,500 tons.

In addition, a 750-foot-long and 5.5-meter-deep harbor will be constructed to accommodate fishing vessels and a 1,100-foot, 3.5-meter-deep harbor for MIFCO's general use.
