A symposium has commenced to discuss the difficulties encountered in maintaining border security.
The symposium, titled "Maldives Border Security Symposium", began at H. Meeruma Hall on Tuesday. The two-day symposium is attended by representatives from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
Immigration Controller Mohamed Ahmed' Hanafee' Hussain said the aim of such a symposium would be to identify and find solutions to the difficulties in border security management. A strategic action plan for border security will be prepared based on the discussions at the symposium.
Immigration Maldives has said an uptick in border crimes has increased in several countries since the COVID-19 pandemic. Such countries should work together to find a solution to the issues faced, the authority said.
