Maldives sets new record for tourist arrivals in October

The Tourism Ministry has announced that the Maldives has set a new record in October in terms of tourist arrivals, making this October the most successful October for the industry over the years.

According to the Tourism Ministry, 153,000 tourists visited the Maldives in October. This is an eight percent increase compared to October 2021 and 2019. Ministry data shows 141,929 tourists visited the Maldives in October 2019 and 142,066 tourists in October 2021.

The highest number of tourists visited the Maldives this year in February. With an uptick in arrival numbers last month, October becomes the month in which the second-highest number of tourists visited the South Asian archipelago this year. While the total number of tourists visiting the Maldives as of October 26 reached 1.3 million, this is a 33.5 percent increase over the same period last year.

According to statistics, India is the leading tourist market for the Maldives. While 180,255 tourists have visited the Maldives from India thus far this year, Russia follows behind as the second largest market, with 155,490 tourists.

The Maldives' tourism industry is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The government has set its target on hosting 1.6 million tourists this year.
