The Health Ministry is working to arrange medical checkups to be covered under the national medical insurance scheme, Aasandha.
Health Ministry's Communication Director Aminath Shathufa told AVAS that the ministry is working to make testing available through Aasandha to regularly monitor blood sugar, cholesterol, and high blood pressure.
The relevant paperwork is currently being completed. Once they are completed, medical checkups will be included under the Aasandha scheme, she said.
"The necessary work is being done at the policy level to bring about the changes as soon as possible. We don't know the exact date," Shathufa said.
In addition to diabetes, cholesterol, and high blood pressure, many standard tests are done on doctor's advice, and the tests are covered under Aasandha. However, the public complains that Aasandha does not provide separate medical checkups.
