MMA reports increase in exports and imports

The Maldives' imports and exports of goods have increased this year compared to the previous year.

According to data released by the central bank, Monetary Authority of Maldives (MMA), the Maldives imported goods worth US$2.85 billion from January to October this year.

This figure is 41.4 percent higher than the value of imports during the same period last year. Imports during the same period last year stood at US$2 billion.

The Maldives' exports also increased by 43.8 percent from January to October. As of October this year, the Maldives exported goods worth US$322.4 million. During the same period last year, Maldives exported goods worth US$224.2 million.

Maldives imported petroleum products worth US$690.4 million as of October this year. These include petrol, diesel, and aviation gas. Food imports amounted to US$556.1 million.

Meanwhile, US$118 million of the Maldives' exports were in the fish and fish products export.
