Nasheed announces intent to contest party primary

The main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s President and Parliament Speaker, Mohamed Nasheed, has announced that he will contest the party's Presidential Primary. Nasheed made the announcement via a tweet on Sunday.

In his tweet, Nasheed expressed his intention to contest the election and asked all party members to vote for him.

MDP has decided to hold its presidential primary on January 28, 2023. The party said those contesting the election must submit their application forms before 4:00 pm on December 24, along with documents showcasing the support of 500 party members.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has also announced that he will contest the upcoming election.

According to the MDP's presidential primary timeline, the final list of candidates will be announced on December 26. The list of eligible voters for the presidential primary will be publicized and opened for complaints on December 28. The deadline for submitting complaints is by 4:00 pm of December 31.

The final voters' list will be announced on January 3. Candidate representatives can submit the relevant application between January 10 and January 15.
