President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said the government faces challenges within the Parliament from specific MPs and the main opposition, the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).
President Solih and Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed will go head to head in MDP's Presidential Primary slated for January 28. The campaigns of both candidates are ongoing and in full swing.
Meeting with supporters in N. Kendhikulhudhoo on his campaign for the MDP presidential primary, President Solih on Saturday said the current government had provided more services to the people in four years compared to what was achieved in the five years of the previous government.
The president said that despite many obstacles and challenges, the government has always overcome these barriers and provided services to the people. He noted that the Parliament and PPM posed challenges to the government.
"From the beginning, this government faced challenges from the parliament and the opposition, PPM," he said.
President Solih said his government had implemented major projects in addition to providing basic services on every island without exclusion. The President noted that implementing such projects on every island was not a waste and should not be seen as such
