Parliament Speaker and candidate in the main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) 's Presidential Primary, Mohamed Nasheed, has said his running mate in the 2023 Presidential Election would be from the southernmost Addu City.
Nasheed will go head to head against President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in MDP's Presidential Primary slated for January 28. Both candidates' campaigns are ongoing in full swing.
Speaking to the press after concluding a campaign tour to Alif Alif, Alif Dhaalu, Faafu, and Dhaalu atoll, Nasheed said a running mate must be someone who represents the entire country.
"The running mate will be from Addu City, and he will serve as a symbol that represents the entire Maldives," said Nasheed.
Nasheed went on to state that he would win the MDP presidential primary with 60-70 percent of the vote and hoped to move forward to the 2023 Presidential Election with a successful running mate.
