Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed has expressed his displeasure at Fisheries Minister Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan.
Maafannu Central MP Ibrahim Rasheed asked the minister regarding the countries to which the Maldives exports fish, the quantity, and the rejection percentage.
In his written response read out at Monday's Parliament sitting, the minister said the number of fish rejected from fish exports is not information obtained from companies and recorded by the Fisheries Ministry.
The response met with displeasure from Nasheed.
"I am looking at what Parliament has deemed as the minister's responsibilities. If you clearly state in writing that you are not fulfilling those responsibilities, it is a huge challenge," he said.
Nasheed said he would ask the Parliament's Secretary General to speak to the minister after looking into the matter.
At the sitting, MP Ibrahim Rasheed said hundreds of containers of skipjack tuna are rejected from the cold storage stage.
