Foreigner tests positive for malaria

A malaria case has been identified in the Maldives.

Malaria is a disease transmitted by mosquitoes. The disease was eradicated in the Maldives in 2015, and the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the Maldives a malaria-free country.

According to the Health Protection Agency (HPA), the man who tested positive for malaria is an Indian national who has been living in the Maldives since January. He was diagnosed when he consulted with a doctor last week due to illness.

An official said there is no danger of malaria in the Maldives despite the positive case.
