Increased investor interest in the Maldives: CBRE

Coldwell Banker Richard Ellis (CBRE) has said investor interest in the Maldives has picked up.

CBRE is one of the most prominent companies in the world in the real estate business.

CBRE believes that the increased investor interest in the Maldives was due to the reform of the Foreign Direct Investment Policy and the government's policies to develop tourism in the country with environmental priority. Investors are more interested in investing in the Maldives' tourism sector than in Bali, Indonesia, which is one of the Maldives' biggest competitors in the tourism sector, CBRE said.

According to Praphinleeya Phuengkhuankhan, Head of Residential Sales at CBRE, Maldives is a unique country with easy investment returns and new opportunities to invest in the tourism business.

The Maldives has been noted as the fastest-recovering economy since the global COVID-19 pandemic. With regard to economic forecasts by the Maldives and international financial institutions, the number of tourists arriving in the Maldives has increased by 20 percent in the past year.

The government expects to achieve its target of 1.8 million tourists this year and hopes to receive two million tourists by the end of the year.

According to the Tourism Ministry, the number of tourists visiting the Maldives has crossed 626,000 thus far this year.
