A man who escaped from police custody in Rasdhoo has been re-arrested.
The suspect, identified as Hussain Shahbaan from Ha. Himandhoo escaped from the Aa. Rasdhoo Police Station on Friday. He fled custody while being held in remand pending trial. According to the police, he escaped while he was let out to the grounds.
The police said Shahbaan was found on Saturday evening in the lagoon of an island near Rasdhoo. The police thanked the public for sharing social media posts regarding the wanted man.
Those detained pending trial are required to be kept in the custody of the Maldives Corrections Service until the end of the trial. However, some are remanded in island police stations.
