Police bust human trafficking network, 13 arrested

Police arrest 13 individuals in crackdown on a human trafficking network in Male' City.

The operation, led by the Anti-Human Trafficking Department, Intelligence, and Immigration, targeted a large-scale prostitution business based on intelligence received. Raiding four locations in Male' City, Law enforcement detained eight Bangladeshi men, a Bangladeshi woman, and four Thai women. The investigation into the case is ongoing.

Illegal immigrants in the Maldives has seen a significant rise, with foreigners engaging in illicit businesses. Furthermore, there has been an uptick in serious crimes involving foreigners. Public concern persists over the inadequate efforts of relevant agencies in addressing these issues.
