The Civil Court has ordered the Election Commission to stay the dissolution of the Maldives Reform Movement (MRM).
On May 24, the Elections Commission dissolved MRM for failing to meet the minimum membership requirement of 3,000 members. Despite being granted time to gather members, the party failed to submit the required documentation within the given deadline, leading to the commission's decision. According to the Election Commission's website, MRM had 2,981 members as of February 21, just 18 members short of the minimum membership requirement.
The MRM has filed a civil suit challenging the commission's decision. The court on Sunday issued a 30-day stay on the Election Commission’s decision to dissolve the MRM.
