The main party center of the emerging party, The Democrats, has been vandalized.
The Democrats is a new party being formed by MPs from the main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) who recently defected from the party. The party took over MDP's main party center located on Boduthakurufaanu Magu in Male' City.
On Monday night, a group of individuals riding motorcycles targeted The Democrats' party center and threw crude oil at the building while a meeting was in progress. People who were at the premise at the time were also sprayed by the oil, including Vilifushi MP Hassan Afeef.
Former MDP Vice President Mohamed Shifaz, responsible for overseeing the formation of The Democrats, condemned the act as cowardly. He emphasized that such actions will not deter the party from its mission.
No arrests have been made in connection with the incident as of now.
