Fish exports increase by 13 percent

The Maldives exported 35,081 metric tonnes of fish in the first four months of this year.

According to the central bank, Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), fish exports increased in the first four months of this year by 13.5 percent compared to the same period last year. The Maldives exported 30,906 metric tonnes of fish during the first four months of 2022.

Among the various fish species exported, skipjack tuna emerged as the top export product. Statistics show 25,661 metric tonnes of skipjack tuna were exported during this period. Additionally, the Maldives exported 3,496 metric tonnes of yellowfin tuna and 5,108 metric tonnes of canned fish.

The price of skipjack in the international market stood at MVR 30.8 per kg at the end of April.
