Ungoofaaru boat fire: One victim suffers 25 percent burns

Ungoofaaru Regional Hospital has said one of the three victims injured in a boat fire on Saturday suffered 25 percent burns.

An Ungoofaaru vessel used for sea cucumber fishery caught on fire on Saturday while handling chemicals aboard the vessel. Three local men aged 24, 26, and 34 were taken to Ungoofaaru Regional Hospital following the incident.

Speaking to AVAS, the hospital's Media Manager, Hassan Fazeel, said the 34-year-old sustained 25 percent burns on his body. However, the patient's condition is not deemed serious, he said.

"The doctor has recommended a one-week admission for the patient's recovery," Fazeel said.

Fazeel said the other two men sustained minimal burns and are generally doing well. They are expected to be discharged from the hospital within two or three days, he added.
