Nasheed makes serious allegations against PPM's Dr. Muizzu

Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed has made serious allegations against Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the presidential candidate representing the PPM.

Speaking at a Democrats campaign rally at Gaafu Alif Kolamaafushi on Sunday, Nasheed said if Muizzu is elected president, the Maldives' affairs will veer to an extreme extent to the point that the country's citizens may lose the country. However, he did not elaborate on what he meant by the statement.

Muizzu is contesting the presidential election on the PPM/PNC ticket after their leader, former President Abdulla Yameen, was barred from contesting the election due to an ongoing incarceration. Muizzu has vowed to free Yameen if he is elected and has consistently emphasized that Yameen remains the legitimate presidential candidate of the PPM.

Referring to the circumstance, Nasheed said regardless of Muizzu's current declarations, he will isolate Yameen if he attains power. He said Muizzu would not allow Yameen the opportunity to have any opinion or say on any government matter and even went as far as suggesting that Muizzu might undertake actions that could endanger the former president's life.

The former president further said Muizzu would harm the entire country if elected and appealed to PPM members to contemplate this possibility before casting their votes in the upcoming September election. He urged them to rally behind the Democratic Party's candidate, Ilyas Labeeb, instead.

Over the course of the Democrats' ongoing campaign tour of Huvadhoo Atoll, President Nasheed has consistently voiced his support for the PPM and former President Yameen. However, the PPM's leadership has cautioned their members against Nasheed's tactics, asserting that his intentions are geared towards creating divisions within the MDP.
