Thilamale' Bridge: Marine piling process commences

The process of embedding the pillars of the Thilamale' Bridge into the seabed commenced on Friday.

Financed through a USD 115 million grant and a USD 400 million allocation from a larger USD 800 million line of credit extended by India, the Thilamale' Bridge project is being managed by the Indian company AFCONS Infrastructure. The contract for the construction of the bridge was awarded to AFCONS Infrastructure on August 26, 2021.

The Indian High Commission in the Maldives said the marine piling process for the bridge's pillars commenced between Male' and Villimale with the second jack-up platform named Maharaja, working alongside the already operational Maharani jack-up platform. Progress is also being made on erecting the bridge's superstructure, the high commission said.

The Thilamale Bridge, spanning a distance of 6.695 km, will include a bridge and causeway linking Male', Villimale' Gulhifalhu, and Thilamale'.
