MDA Council member faces allegations of altercation with party VP Rafiyya

Mohamed Abbas, a council member of the Maldives Development Alliance (MDA), is facing allegations of a physical altercation with the party's Vice President, Aishath Rafiyya.

Rafiyya disclosed to AVAS that the incident involved Abbas striking her in the stomach on Thursday night. The case has now been reported to the police, she said, adding that she was seen by a doctor following the alleged attack and was advised to observe bed rest.

“I cannot share more details at this time as the police are investigating the case,” she said.

The circumstances leading to the incident and its specific location remain unclear.

Rafiyya and Abbas have been at the forefront of the MDA since its inception. The two are also very close to MDA President and prominent businessman Ahmed Siyam Mohamed.

The police could not be reached for comment.
