Key appointments made for leadership roles at SOEs

Several key appointments have been announced for leadership roles in state-owned enterprises.

Shimad Ibrahim was appointed as the Managing Director of the State Trading Organisation (STO), while Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed was appointed the Managing Director for Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL). Ibrahim Iyas was appointed the Managing Director of Island Aviation Services (IAS).

Shimad, with a strong background and experience in economics, has previously served as a board member and Chairman of STO's Audit and Risk Committee. His extensive background includes service as a board member of Thilafushi Corporation, MTDC, and Maldives Energy Authority. He also held several senior positions in the Villa Group, the Finance Ministry and was the Head of Finance at the Maldives Islamic Bank. He studied as a chartered accountant in the UK and has been involved in business and economics for more than 15 years.

Ibrahim Shareef holds a Masters in Commerce from Deakin University, Australia. Shareef has held significant roles such as Chairman of Fuel Supply Maldives, Commissioner General of Customs, CEO of Maldives Ports Limited, and Chairman of Maldives Transport Authority. He was also a Board Director of Dhiraagu.

With a commendable 19-year career in the aviation industry, Iyas has been with IAS since 2008 and most recently served as the Chief Operations Officer. Iyas, who previously worked for the Maldives Civil Aviation Authority, holds a Masters in Aeronautical Engineering from Imperial College, University of London.
