China pledges continued development support to the Maldives

China has provided assurances of further development projects for the Maldives, Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed has said.

In a social media post on X, Minister Saeed, who is currently accompanying Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef on an official visit to China, highlighted the commitment from the Chinese government to enhance trade and tourism through increased flights to the Maldives. He said the Chinese government has expressed full confidence in implementing additional investment and development initiatives in the Maldives in the near future.

Saeed was also the Economic Minister during President Abdullah Yameen's government. Yameen's administration had close ties with China. Under this alliance, significant development projects were undertaken with substantial support from China, including the construction of 7,000 flats in Hulhumale' Phase II, the building of the Sinamale' Bridge, and the expansion of Velana International Airport.
