Econ Minister assures uninterrupted essential goods supply amidst India's onion export ban

Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed has assured that there are no hindrances to importing essential goods into the Maldives. Minister Saeed's remarks come as India, the largest supplier of onions to the Maldives, has temporarily banned the export of onions until March next year.

Saeed said in a post on X that the Maldives will always be given priority by its trade allies, ensuring a consistent flow of essential commodities. He acknowledged that shifts in the global food market and changes in export policies of individual countries are routine occurrences.

Highlighting President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's commitment to prioritizing food security for the Maldivian people, Minister Saeed emphasized the implementation of sustainable holistic solutions to achieve this goal.
