Maldives to explore agricultural collaboration with China

The Maldives government is in talks with the Chinese government to foster agricultural development on Uthuru Thila Falhu. The announcement was made by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Saturday while speaking to reporters after concluding his state visit to China.

Previously designated for a modern military base for the Maldives National Defense Force, Uthuru Thila Falhu plans underwent changes at the end of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's term, with dredging efforts initiated to allocate land for long-term residents of Male'.

Sharing information on the current government's plans for Uthuru Thila Falhu, President Dr. Muizzu said discussions are ongoing with China to establish an agricultural establishment that can produce a diverse range of crops suitable for Maldivian conditions, for atleast 200,000 people. The president said an agreement had been signed with China to further expand agriculture and farming in the Maldives to ensure food security.
